Great Week of Service

Each year we offer a week of service opportunities with our various local missions. This is a great way to experience local missions and figure out how you might want to be involved throughout the year.

*We will collect donation items for several of our service projects on two weekends, July 29 and 30 and August 5 and 6, from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Drop off will be in both Helms Hall and the FLC. Sunday, August 13

Prayer of Blessing in worship

 

Monday, August 14

Support our Troops in Afghanistan with Care Boxes – 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (REGISTRATION FULL)

Help support our troops in Afghanistan with care boxes by filling them with coffee beans, snacks, soap, detergent, etc. All ages. (We will collect donation items for several of our service projects on two weekends, July 29 and 30 and August 5 and 6, from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Drop off will be in both Helms Hall and the FLC.)

 

Operation Reach Out – 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (REGISTRATION FULL)

Put together hygiene kits by filling them with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. to assist children in poverty stricken schools start off their day feeling clean and ready to start their day. All ages. (We will collect donation items for several of our service projects on two weekends, July 29 and 30 and August 5 and 6, from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Drop off will be in both Helms Hall and the FLC.)

 

Tuesday, August 15

Operation Sandwich for Urban Ministry – 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Help make bagged lunches for Urban Ministry to help feed the hungry. All ages.

 

Operation Sandwich for Urban Ministry – 9:30-12:30 p.m. (REGISTRATION FULL)

Deliver bagged lunches for Urban Ministry. 10 adults needed.

 

Monroe Campus Children’s Activity –  6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Campus

Day 1 of 3 in which we will offer activities for the children in our Monroe Campus community.  Participate in making crafts, sharing fellowship, and serving food.

 

Wednesday, August 16

Samaritan’s Feet – 8:30 a.m.-12:00 noon at Samaritan’s Feet.

Process and prepare shoes that will be distributed around the world in an effort of creating a world with “zero” shoeless children.  Please bring either a $10 donation or a pair of new children’s athletic shoes and socks. Open to adults and children ages 8-15 with parent/chaperone. Volunteers must fill out an online waiver. Meet at the church office parking lot to ride together.

 

Loaves & Fishes – 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Bonds Grove Campus

Stop by our Bonds Grove Campus and drop off groceries to help assist Loaves and Fishes, in Charlotte, provide a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries to individuals and families experiencing a short-term crisis. All ages.

 

Monroe Campus Children’s Activity –  6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Campus

Day 2 of 3 in which we will offer activities for the children in our Monroe Campus community.  Participate in making crafts, sharing fellowship and serving food.

 

Thursday, August 17  

Operation Reach Out Community Garden – 9:30-11:30 (tilling) (REGISTRATION FULL) 12:30-2:30 (planting) at Operation Reach 

Help till and plant vegetables in this community garden which helps to feed some of the hungry in Union County. 8 adults needed.

 

Turning Point – 2:00 p.m.

Meet at our Monroe Campus with handmade or purchased children’s blankets and stuffed animals as we bag them to give to the children who walk through the door at Turning Point. (After the event, join us for a tour of Turning Point at 3:00 p.m. in Monroe.)

 

Monroe Campus Children’s Activity – 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Campus

Day 3 of 3 in which we will offer activities for the children in our Monroe Campus community.  Participate in making crafts, sharing fellowship and serving food.

 

House of Pearls – 6:30-9:00 p.m.

Engage in fellowship and craft-making with the residents of this Christian, transitional, halfway house which helps women rebuild their lives after being homeless or previously incarcerated. The crafts are then sold in an effort to help sustain the cost of their residency. Adults only.

 

Friday, August 18  

Operation Reach Out Lunch – 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Operation Reach Out (REGISTRATION FULL)

Prepare and serve lunches for some of our neighbors who are hungry in Union County, where they can come, each day, to hear God’s word and enjoy a meal together. Adults only.

 

Crisis Assistance (Union County) – 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Campus

Prepare food boxes to help assist Crisis Assistance in offering an assortment of items to choose from their food pantry. Please bring your donations to the Weddington campus drop-off on August 5 and 6 or with you to Monroe on the night of the event.

 

Saturday, August 19

Monroe Campus Neighborhood Clean-Up – 10:00-12:00 p.m. at the Monroe Campus

Join us as we come together, with our neighbors of the Monroe Campus, to help beautify the neighborhood as we walk in teams to “clean-up” where needed and accessible. We will have water stations and free t-shirts!
