We invite you to participate in this year’s Great Week of Service, August 12-19. Each year Weddington UMC celebrates the Great Week of Service by focusing on a variety of service opportunities concentrated in one week. We look forward to this Great Week as we serve God by serving our neighbor together!

 

Great Week Donation Items Even if you can’t make time to serve in person during the Great Week of Service, August 12-19, participating by making a donation of items is a much needed avenue of service. Click below for a list of items needed for service projects. Items can be brought to the church office or to each service project. For questions, please contact the church office.

Great Week of Service Donation Items Needed

 

Hands & Feet Service Opportunities:

Support our Troops with Care Boxes: 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13 in the Fellowship Hall.

Help support our troops with care boxes by filling them with coffee beans, snacks, soap, detergent, etc.

 

Operation Reach Out Hygiene Kits: 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13 in the Fellowship Hall.

Put together hygiene kits with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. to assist children in poverty-stricken schools to feel clean and ready to start their day.

 

Monroe Campus Summer Fun Evening with BSA Troop 99: 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13 in the Monroe Campus Fellowship Hall.

BSA Troop 99 will lead the fun for the Monroe Campus kids this night, with a cook out, games, and loads of fun.

Operation Sandwich! for Urban Ministry & Salvation Army Center of Hope Shelter: 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14 in the Fellowship Hall.

Make sandwiches and bagged lunches for Urban Ministry and the Salvation Army Center of Hope Shelter, to help feed the hungry.

 

Operation Sandwich! Delivery & Tour of Urban Ministry Center: 9:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14.

Deliver prepared sandwiches and bag lunches to the Salvation Army Center of Hope Shelter and Urban Ministry, then take a tour of Urban Ministry Center to learn about the multiple ways this ministry serves the homeless. Meet in the Fellowship Hall parking lot by the mini bus. (Limit 24 people)

 

Crisis Assistance Food Pantry: 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Augusts 14 in the Monroe Campus Fellowship Hall.

Prepare food boxes to help Crisis Assistance in offering an assortment of items from their food pantry to those in need.

 

Monroe Campus Children’s Sole2Soul Summer Fun Evening: 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14 in the Monroe Campus Fellowship Hall.

Volunteer to help with the fun! Sole2Soul will provide an opportunity for the kids in our Monroe Campus community to receive new shoes. We’ll also have outside games and dinner.

 

House of Pearls: 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14.

Luminaries – fun and easy project painting jars and decorating with beads, pendants, etc.  These can be used by the women as gifts or sold at the Pearls Boutique. Meet by the fountain at the main campus Sanctuary.

 

Samaritan’s Feet: 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15

Process and prepare shoes that will be distributed around the world in an effort of creating a world with “zero” shoeless children. Please bring either a $10 donation or a pair of new children’s athletic shoes and a pair of socks. Each volunteer must fill out a volunteer waiver online at www.samaritansfeet.org/waiver. Meet in the church office parking lot by the mini bus. (Limit 24 people, ages 8 and up.)

 

Monroe Campus Children’s Pizza & Paint Night: 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15 in the Monroe Campus Fellowship Hall.

Volunteer to help kids with paint projects to keep and share, have fun and fellowship, and serve pizza for dinner.

 

Bake Cookies for Shut-ins: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16 in the Bonds Grove Fellowship Hall

Join us in baking a big batch of sugar cookies to decorate.

 

Decorate Cookies for Shut-ins: 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 16 in the Bonds Grove Fellowship Hall

Operation Christmas Child’s “Christmas in August” Shoebox Packing & Collection: 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 16 in Helms Hall on the Weddington campus.

A shoebox packed with fun items, hygiene products, and school supplies can bring great joy to a child in need and their family. Collect your items to fill a shoebox or two, and then join us Thursday evening for Christmas cheer and to pack and label your boxes. Preprinted boxes and labels will be provided. Please bring with you items for your box and a $9 donation to cover shipping and other Samaritans Purse project costs. Visit samaritanspurse.org/occ for instructions on what to include in your shoebox.

 

Deliver Cookies for Shut-ins: 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17 in the Bonds Grove Fellowship Hall

Package and deliver cookies.

 

Great Week of Service Community Dinner: 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 19 in the Family Life Center Gym.

Let’s break bread together and celebrate a wonderful week of serving as the hands and feet of Jesus in the community and beyond. Join us for dinner and a celebration of what God has used us for during our Great Week!
