Happening This Week at Weddington http://ow.ly/aTFjE
Weddington UMC seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who are hurting in our church and in the community. Support groups such as AA, NA, Job Hunt Support, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, GriefShare and DivorceCare are how many people have found healing and hope.
The Pastoral Care Ministry consists of staff members: Rev. Ed Briggs and Sandra McKee. Feel free to call the church office at 704.846.1032, if you have any questions about our Pastoral Care ministries.
Alcoholics Anonymous
We are blessed to be able to offer support for people who are struggling with alcohol addiction. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, Room 2. To be a part of this group, please contact Sandy at 704.846.2503.
Alzheimer's/Dementia Caregiver Support Group
This support group is designed for the caregivers, family and friends of people affected by dementia and Alzheimer's diseases. The goals of this group are to provide caregivers support on a regular basis, give caregivers the opportunity to meet others in the same situation, share feelings and experiences, learn information about these diseases and help caregivers know how to better care for their loved ones.
The group meets on the 4th Thursday of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Hemby House and is open to members of the community and the WUMC congregation. Please contact Sharon McFadden at 704.243.2712 for more information.
Cancer Care Support Team
This team seeks to care for families who are affected by cancer. They provide emotional, spiritual and physical support. Greeting cards, prayers, meal delivery, taking a person to treatments, providing respite care, and house cleaning are some examples of how the Cancer Care Team seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus to families struggling with cancer.
Volunteer Opportunities: We need people who can help prepare meals, visit, running errands, provide childcare and gift certificates.
If your Sunday School class, LIFE Group, Disciple class or youth group is interested in helping, or if you know a family that is struggling with these issues, please contact Sherri Lofflin at 704.321.1795 or Rev. Ed Briggs.
Caring Hearts
A Caring Heart is a sensitive heart to the needs of others, a loving heart bringing cheer and a brighter day to those we visit, and a happy heart sharing a smile with those in our care.
The Caring Hearts (shut-in and nursing home care) offers Christ’s love, nurture and support to those who are unable to be active participants in the congregation due to the incapacities of old age or other infirmities that confine them to their homes and nursing/adult care facilities.
Caring Hearts visit shut-ins, call shut-ins, deliver meals, offer prayer support and develop a relationship with a shut-in friend. If you would like to be a part of this ministry or would be interested in more information, please contact Rev. Ed Briggs, Sandra McKee or Diane Georges at 704.841.9162.
DivorceCare Support Group
This class meets on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Room 21. This group features a DVD series with recognized experts on divorce and recovery. After the DVD is shown, there is a small group time to process the information received as well as time to experience the caring support from group members.
GriefShare Support Group
If you or someone you know have experienced the death of a family member or friend, please know that help can be found through GriefShare. This thirteen-week class seeks, through a DVD series and discussion, to bring comfort and care to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The class meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Hemby, Room 5.
Job Hunt Support Group
This group seeks to support people who are unemployed or underemployed by ways of networking, mock interviews and resume writing. The facilitators have backgrounds in human resources and recruiting. They meet on the first and third Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. in the Hemby House.
