Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

Jun 21, 2026    The Rev. Dr. Terry Moore

If God is good, why is there suffering? Why do bad things happen to good people?

This week in our summer series, But Why? Honest Questions. Biblical Answers., Pastor Terry tackles one of the most difficult questions people ask about faith. Looking at John 9 and the story of the man born blind, we discover that Jesus often redirects us from asking "Who is to blame?" to asking, "What can God do in and through this?"

When tragedy strikes, illness comes without warning, or life seems unfair, it's natural to ask why. Yet Scripture reminds us that while we may not always understand the cause of suffering, we can trust the character of God. The God revealed in Jesus Christ is not distant, cruel, or looking for ways to punish us. He is a God who loves us, walks with us through our darkest valleys, and promises never to leave us nor forsake us.

This message explores the reality of suffering, the difference between a broken creation and a broken God, and the hope we find in a Savior who walks beside us through life's hardest moments.

If you've ever wrestled with pain, loss, disappointment, or unanswered questions, this sermon offers biblical truth, honest reflection, and encouragement for the journey.
