Monroe Campus

Overview

Weddington Church’s Monroe Campus is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, vibrant community of people gathering together to worship God with passion. Our congregation comes from different backgrounds and joins together to love God, grow in wisdom and knowledge, and humbly serve in love. Come discover our Monroe Campus in NC.

Join us on Sundays at 3 p.m. for our bilingual worship service and children’s Sunday School. Throughout the week we offer Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Life Group opportunities for people of all ages.

Our church also serves as a place to receive after school support for elementary aged children through our Homework Help Ministry. We are a Christ-centered community and welcome you to come join us as friends to worship our God.

History

Founded in 1907 as Benton Heights United Methodist Church, our church holds a rich history deeply interwoven with our community. In 1984, our current Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Terry Moore, embarked on his ministry journey at Benton Heights. Over the years, he earned his Doctorate in Ministry and served at various North Carolina churches before joining Weddington Methodist Church in 2008.

In 2004, Rev. Rocio Ávila-Ramírez was called to lead Benton Heights United Methodist Church while pursuing her studies at Pfeiffer University. She later expanded her service in different capacities. In the autumn of 2014, under Dr. Moore’s leadership, Weddington Church became the custodian of Benton Heights United Methodist Church’s property.

Weddington Church began the task of repairing, updating, and reopening the church as a place of worship and gathering. In 2016, Rev. Rocio Ávila-Ramírez joined the staff of Weddington Church as Missions and Monroe Campus Pastor. Her bilingual gifts and heart for others would prove to be invaluable during this time of growth in Monroe. With the building repairs complete, and a focus on ministering to the surrounding community, Weddington opened an after school program for the local children. By building relationships and sharing the love of Jesus, this program expanded to include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for the parents of the Homework Help children. Before long, adults began gathering on Wednesday nights to pray together and soon after, that grew into a weekly gathering for Sunday worship.

We are excited for Rev. José Eliezer Fernández’s leadership as he continues to guide and nurture this thriving community. Today, Weddington Church’s Monroe Campus is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, vibrant community of people gathering together to worship God with opportunities for people of all ages to worship and serve our Savior, Jesus Christ.
