Why Pray When God Already Knows?

Aug 9, 2026    The Rev. Dr. Terry Moore

If God already knows what we need before we ask, then what is the purpose of prayer?

In this message from "But Why? Honest Questions. Biblical Answers.", Pastor Terry explores what prayer is really about. It isn't simply bringing God a list of requests—it's entering into a genuine, real-time relationship with the God who wants to share life with us.

Throughout Scripture, prayer is a conversation. Abraham intercedes. Moses pleads. God's people cry out. Jesus asks His Father for another way in Gethsemane. God hears, God responds, and sometimes His answer isn't the one we hoped to receive.

So why pray? Because prayer is more than asking God for things. It's an invitation to walk with Him, talk with Him, listen to Him, trust Him, and open our lives to Him. As Pastor Terry reminds us, God isn't looking for superficial spirituality—He wants a relationship with us.

What could change if prayer stopped being your to-do list for God and became a conversation with Him?
