Why Did God Put the Tree in the Garden?
If God knew Adam and Eve would eat the fruit, why did He put the tree in the Garden of Eden in the first place?
This week in our summer series, But Why? Honest Questions. Biblical Answers., Pastor Terry explores one of the Bible's most enduring questions. Looking at Genesis 2–3, we discover that the tree in the Garden wasn't a trap—it was an invitation to genuine love.
Real love cannot be forced. It cannot be manipulated or coerced. For love to be authentic, there must be the freedom to choose. From the Garden of Eden to the cross of Christ, Scripture reveals a God who desires a real relationship with His people, even though that relationship requires vulnerability and the possibility of rejection.
Through biblical examples including Moses, Jonah, and Jesus' invitation in Revelation 3:20, this message reminds us that God isn't looking for perfect religion—He's inviting us into a living, dynamic relationship with Him.
If you've ever wondered why God allows us to choose, what free will really means, or what kind of relationship God wants with us, this message offers biblical insight and the hope found in a God who first chose us.
